Title: SSFDA Demands Immediate Halt to Bombardment of Civilian Areas in South Sudan

The South Sudan Federal Democratic Alliance, SSFDA, expresses grave concern over escalating reports of aerial bombardments in Unity State, Jonglei, and Upper Nile over the past two weeks. Reports indicate strikes affecting civilian settlements, hospitals, and humanitarian infrastructure.

Civilians must never be the battlefield of political power struggles. If confirmed, attacks targeting or recklessly endangering civilian populations, medical facilities, or UN-supported assets constitute grave violations of international humanitarian law. Such actions deepen displacement, disrupt life-saving humanitarian assistance, and erode any remaining confidence in the country’s stalled political transition.

South Sudan cannot move toward peace while civilians are exposed to bombardment and insecurity. The continued militarisation of governance has produced instability, corruption, and humanitarian suffering. This trajectory must change.

SSFDA calls for:

• Immediate suspension of all aerial and heavy-weapon operations affecting civilian areas
• Independent international investigation and verification of reported strikes
• Full protection of hospitals, humanitarian corridors, and UN resources
• Accountability mechanisms consistent with international humanitarian and human rights law

SSFDA reiterates that durable peace cannot be achieved through force. It requires a lawful constitutional transition toward a civilian, charter-based federal administration representing South Sudan’s 64 communities. The Alliance rejects armed contestation and advances a structured civilian pathway grounded in federal constitutional order, civilian supremacy over security institutions, and institutional accountability.

South Sudan’s future must be secured through constitutional civilian governance, not bombardment.

Chairman Samuel Mut Gai Dhap remains available to provide further information and public comment.
