Hundreds Flee Fangak and Pigi Attacks: SSFDA Condemns Ongoing Targeting of Civilians
The South Sudan Federal Democratic Alliance (SSFDA) expresses its grave concern and outrage over the ongoing displacement of civilians from Fangak and Pigi counties, who have now sought refuge in Ayod County, Jonglei State, as confirmed by Hon. Gen. James Chuol Jiek Bol, Commissioner of Ayod.
This latest wave of displacement underscores the regime’s relentless campaign of ethnic cleansing and scorched-earth tactics in opposition-held areas. It is a direct consequence of recent attacks carried out by SSPDF forces and their foreign-backed militias—most notably RSF units operating with impunity in Upper Nile and Jonglei regions.
The people of Fangak and Pigi have already suffered drone bombings, aerial assaults, and systematic targeting of villages, churches, and medical facilities. Their forced flight to Ayod is not an isolated incident but part of a broader strategy by Juba to depopulate key opposition strongholds, weaponize famine, and dismantle any remaining civilian infrastructure in defiant territories.
SSFDA Demands Immediate Action:
Ceasefire and Demilitarization – Immediate cessation of hostilities in Fangak, Pigi, and Ayod, with unconditional withdrawal of SSPDF and RSF forces.
Humanitarian Corridor – Urgent establishment of a protected corridor for displaced civilians to receive food, shelter, and medical care.
International Investigation – Deployment of independent observers and the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan to document and report on these crimes.
Accountability – Swift activation of the AU-South Sudan Hybrid Court to prosecute those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
To Our People in Ayod, Fangak, and Pigi:
We see you. We mourn with you. And we will not stop fighting for a South Sudan where civilians are not hunted, where women are not raped for tribal affiliation, and where children can sleep without fear of bombs.
This war on our people must end—and it will not end with silence.
